Innovation Takes Spotlight at Cannes Market

By Pickle  April 13, 2026

As Cannes prepares to open its doors to the global cinema community next month, the Marché du Film – widely regarded as the premier meeting ground for the business of film – has reaffirmed its standing as the leading marketplace for innovation that serves creativity and the broader industry. Scheduled from May 12 to 20, 2026, this year’s edition promises an expanded lineup of technology-driven experiences, summits and showcases that merge artistry with cutting-edge tools shaping the future of storytelling.

Building on several successful initiatives, the 2026 Marché du Film will deepen its exploration of how emerging technologies—from generative AI and virtual production to immersive storytelling and the creator economy—are transforming content creation, production workflows, and distribution practices. Through Cannes Next, the Village Innovation, the AI for Talent and Creator Economy Summits, and the revitalized online platform by Cinando, participants will experience a market designed not only for discovery but also for action and connection.

Innovation takes center stage at the Village

Returning to the Pantiero area by the Village International, the Village Innovation serves once again as the beating heart of Cannes Next. Spanning over 1,000 square meters with panoramic views of the Port of Cannes, this vibrant venue has evolved into a laboratory for hands-on exploration. This year, the spotlight falls on an XL virtual production demo stage—reportedly the largest of its kind ever presented at a film market—where participants will be able to experience the latest in real-time filmmaking technologies. Alongside this, dedicated workspaces for tech startups and media companies, a curated slate of conferences, and networking terraces will foster the dynamic exchange of ideas that has made the Marché a benchmark for creative innovation.

AI and creativity converge at the Talent Summit

The AI for Talent Summit returns with an expanded format, unfolding over two mornings—May 15 and 16—and reserved for top executives and thought leaders from the film and technology sectors. Designed to explore how AI is being actively integrated into creative and business processes, the summit focuses on three key themes this year: embedding AI into production workflows, ensuring ethical and responsible use, and developing education pathways for creative professionals. In addition to concrete case studies and actionable insights, the summit will feature high-level speakers whose names will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Our aim is to bring together the brightest minds shaping the future of creativity,” said Marché du Film Executive Director Guillaume Esmiol. “We advocate innovation that empowers both artistic expression and sustainable industry growth.”

Expanding the Immersive Market and Competition

The Immersive Market, held this year at the historic Carlton Hotel, will run alongside the Festival de Cannes’ Immersive Competition, which itself is taking a bold leap forward. For the first time at a major international festival, Cannes will host a competition focused specifically on shared audience experiences. The immersive venue—redesigned to accommodate between 80 and 225 participants—will cycle through selected works within a flexible 450-square-meter space, showcasing formats that range from high-end VR installations to large-scale video mapping projects.

The market component complements the competition with a strong business focus. Over 150 producers and catalog holders will present live demos to nearly 90 top distributors and curators, promising direct pathways to location-based immersive distribution. Structured pitching sessions, curated networking events, and targeted business meetings will anchor what Esmiol describes as “a platform where creativity meets commerce in real time.”

Cannes embraces the Creator Economy

For the first time, the Marché will spotlight the growing synergy between digital creators and traditional cinema through its Creator Economy Summit. As influencers and digital storytellers venture into long-form formats and film production, this new summit explores how creative crossovers are reshaping audience engagement, IP development, and global marketing strategies. Topics will range from adapting digital intellectual properties for cinema to building community-driven theatrical audiences, reflecting the evolving patterns of how films—and filmmakers—connect with people today.

A new digital dimension with Cinando

Cinando, the Marché du Film’s long-running online networking and industry database, has undergone a major upgrade this year. The relaunched Marché du Film by Cinando platform now unifies screenings, conferencing, and networking into one seamless digital ecosystem. Initially introduced in 2020 for virtual participation, the platform’s new design enables sales agents, buyers, and professionals worldwide to engage in a more fluid and integrated marketplace experience, extending the Cannes energy far beyond the Croisette.

Each of these pillars reinforces the Marché du Film’s mission to remain the global nexus of creativity and technology—a place where artistic vision and commercial opportunity meet, and where the future of cinema continues to be imagined, tested, and refined.

The Marché du Film 2026 runs from May 12 to 20, alongside the Festival de Cannes, which concludes on May 23.
