Ever since Zena could speak, she’s always adored animals. In fact, even before she could speak, she was doing impressions of them. Her first words were “moo”, “woof”, and “ooh ooh ahh ahh”. (monkey impression… You had to be there!) But her connection to animals runs a lot deeper than your average kid
who likes petting puppies or picking up a hopping frog. Each episode starts off in the daytime where Zena, Zach, and some of the animals will be introduced to some kind of emotional theme that one of them is struggling with. Once the zoo closes and the people herd off, Zena and the gang have free reign to have an adventure, which is always fueled by the emotional obstacle set up in the opening. Adventures can take place both in the daytime or at night, but will never end until the emotional obstacle is overcome, and Zena and the animals learn an important life lesson.
