The third edition of curated series with high market potential under the label Berlinale Series Market Selects includes a total of 16 titles from five continents, among them Chile, South Africa, Israel, Belgium, Lithuania and India, as well as two German productions: the mystery series Schnee (Ö/D, Berlinale Co-Pro Series 2020) with Brigitte Hobmeier and Robert Stadlober and Zwei Seiten des Abgrunds with Anne Ratte Polle. Other highlights are the Co-Pro Series project Kuppel 16 from Norway, the Swedish rom-com Handen på Hjärtat, Traitor (Israel), the Canadian family dramedy À propos d’Antoine, and the US production The Way Home with Andie MacDowell.
The Berlinale Series Market is a joint initiative of the European Film Market, the Berlinale Co-Production Market and Berlinale Talents. It is organised in close cooperation with Berlinale Series.
Berlinale Series Market takes place in primary partnership with the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. It also receives support from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, and its media partner is Deadline.
“Blueprints for the future – realistic and gloomy, humorous or hopeful – are a guiding theme of the 2023 series selection. Scenarios of a world dramatically unbalanced by changes in the meteorological and social climate, pleas for social change embedded in genre narratives as well as reinterpretations of the recent past – the current productions are politically sober, committed to the present and future oriented.” says Julia Fidel, section head Berlinale Series.
Berlinale Series presents eight world and international premieres, for the first time series from India, China and Romania. Expected at Zoo Palast are: Leonie Benesch, Svenja Jung, Cécile de France, Jana McKinnon, Sonakshi Sinha, Eili Harboe, Esben Smed, Ulrich Thomsen and many more. The first Berlinale Series Award (Jury: André Holland, Danna Stern and Mette Heeno) in cooperation with Deadline will be presented on February 22.
