International filmmakers and Indian producers to meet at open pitch session to secure funding and distribution partnerships

The WAVES Film Bazaar will hold its Open Pitch session on November 21, featuring 22 feature films and 5 documentaries from 8 countries seeking international co-production partnerships.

The projects represent storytelling in 19 languages, including Hindi, Malayalam, Ladakhi, Konkani, and Sanskrit. Filmmakers will pitch to international producers, distributors, festival programmers, and financiers to secure remaining funding and establish production partnerships.

The Projects

The lineup includes films across multiple genres and regions. Ulta (Madam), directed by Paromita Dhar, follows a domestic worker who discovers a door to a parallel universe. Those Who Flew pairs climate catastrophe with magical realism in Calcutta. Khei-Hea (Night & Day) explores witchcraft accusations in a Manipuri village.

Other notable projects include The Manager (Malayalam financial thriller), A Death Foretold (examination of first-time filmmaking economics), What Remains Unsaid (journalism and honor-killing narratives), and Tyres Will Be Deflated (absurdist comedy set in Delhi).

The documentary selections include Colours of the Sea, Nupi Keithel and The Maharaja and Me.

The Producers

The projects involve established producers including Kiran Rao, Sarita Patil, and Matchbox Shots (production house behind Scoop and IC814). BAFTA award-winning documentarian Ben Crichton directs The Maharaja and Me.

Three projects—Shamed, Smash, and Tiger in the Lion Den—have been selected as NFDC’s Handpicked Focused Projects.

Co-Production Framework

The Co-Production Market includes projects from India, France, UK, Canada, USA, Russia, Philippines, and Singapore. Filmmakers will have the opportunity to pitch directly to potential financial and production partners, with the goal of finalizing co-production agreements.
