As the lights dimmed on the 18th edition of Film Bazaar, the energy and optimism it sparked lingered, celebrating global collaboration and emerging talent.

The curtains came down on Film Bazaar 2024 with a resounding celebration of cinematic creativity, collaboration, and innovation. Organized by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the aegis of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the event reaffirmed its position as a vital platform for nurturing creative talent and bridging the global film industry with India.

Held over four days in Goa alongside the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the event brought together filmmakers, producers, distributors, and financiers from across the globe. This year, the marketplace witnessed an unprecedented 20% increase in participation, attracting industry professionals from more than 50 countries.

In the opening address on the final day, the Director of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) welcomed more than 1,500 delegates from 31 countries, reflecting on the platform’s ability to foster connections across continents and cultures.

A highlight of this year’s event was the Co-Production Market, featuring 21 feature projects from seven countries, collectively budgeted at $14 million. Impressively, $4 million in funding has already been secured for these projects.

The Co-Production Market continued its legacy of fostering collaboration between Indian and international filmmakers. With over 600 one-on-one meetings facilitated during the event, filmmakers explored partnerships for projects spanning multiple languages and regions. The focus this year extended to fostering co-productions with emerging markets in Africa and Southeast Asia.

The Tech Pavilion also received an overwhelming response, sparking conversations on how cutting-edge technology is transforming the cinematic landscape. Meanwhile, the Viewing Room showcased Indian films poised for global festival circuits, amplifying their visibility on international stages.

In a first for Film Bazaar, the Web Series projects featured multilingual scripts in languages such as Konyak Naga, Maithili, Assamese, and Malayalam. Screenwriters from across genres like historical fantasy, supernatural, and comedy had their works highlighted through the prestigious Screenwriters’ Lab.

Participating Indian states showcased their unique locales, underscoring the “film-friendly” policies of regions such as Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Bihar. Notably, international delegations from Australia, Spain, and the UK engaged in fruitful B2B meetings, reinforcing cinema as a bridge between nations.

The much-anticipated Knowledge Series brought together leading voices in the industry to discuss topics ranging from greenlighting projects and navigating the digital revolution to the impact of AI and the evolving role of women in cinema.

Film Bazaar 2024 showcased its diverse lineup with over 250 films across various sections, including the prestigious Viewing Room, Co-Production Market, Industry Screenings, and the highly anticipated Work-In-Progress Lab.

This year’s Work-In-Progress Lab stood out as a highlight, with five selected projects gaining the attention of international distributors and festival programmers. Jury members praised the fresh perspectives and storytelling ingenuity that Indian filmmakers brought to the table. Notably, two films from this section were picked for prestigious international festivals, a testament to the growing recognition of Indian cinema on the global stage.

The Film Bazaar Recommends section spotlighted 20 projects by emerging filmmakers, selected through a rigorous process. Several of these projects garnered interest from prominent international distributors and streaming platforms.

The event saw active participation from global cinema institutions, including Cannes’ Marche du Film, Berlinale, and the Busan International Film Festival, all seeking to collaborate with Indian talent. Delegations from countries like France, the UK, and South Korea emphasized the importance of partnering with Indian creators to bring diverse stories to life.

The closing ceremony of Film Bazaar 2024 was marked by an air of optimism and achievement.
