During a Press Conference at the Gala Premier of ‘Mrs’ at the 55th IFFI 2024 in Goa, Director Arati Kadav emphasised the importance of understanding and empathising with the multifaceted experiences a woman faces after marriage.

Kadav shared her vision for the film during a media interaction, emphasising that Mrs. is a narrative crafted for the “common people,” aimed at connecting with a wide-ranging audience. This film encompasses the experiences of every woman.

She emphasised the significance of addressing the silence surrounding women’s roles, both in the family and in society, and underscored how Mrs. effectively brings these issues to the forefront in a manner that is both accessible and engaging.

Sanya Malhotra, portraying the lead character Richa, expressed her profound emotional connection to the role, characterising it as intensely personal. Sanya remarked, “Women like Richa are present in our midst.” Numerous women have shared their journeys, revealing strikingly similar experiences. She expressed a deep connection with the character, stating that her conversations with numerous women, along with their stories and struggles, contributed to this understanding.

She expressed that the film deeply connects with the passion and aspirations of numerous women, making it particularly meaningful to her. Sanya highlighted the sense of responsibility she experienced in portraying Richa, stating, “I never take a character lightly.” Each role is approached with a sense of seriousness and responsibility, with a commitment to portraying emotions in an authentic manner.

Producer Harman Baweja initiated the discussion by sharing valuable insights regarding the film’s central theme, highlighting the difficulties women encounter post-marriage as they begin a significant transformation. The narrative centres around a woman named Richa, who embarks on a journey to reshape her identity, challenging the constraints imposed by societal expectations.

Baweja observed that a woman embarks on a unique journey following marriage, and for Richa, the title of Mrs. represents her path of self-discovery. It is essential to transcend the confines of labels such as ‘women-centric’ or ‘male-centric.’ The craft transcends gender boundaries. It is essential for us as a society to work together to dismantle these obstacles.

Mrs. delivers a compelling and relevant message that emphasises empowerment, self-identity, and the importance of questioning societal norms. The film features a captivating narrative and a remarkable ensemble, poised to ignite important discussions and encourage viewers to reconsider conventional gender roles.

Arati Kadav takes the helm as the director of the film. The production team features Jyoti Deshpande, PammiBaweja, and Harman Baweja. The screenplay is crafted by the talented trio of Anu Singh Chaudhary, Harman Baweja, and Arati Kadav. Pratham Mehta serves as the Director of Photography.
