Celebrating legends on the shores of Miramar, Sudarsan Pattnaik transforms grains of sand into timeless tales of Indian cinema.
Sudarsan Pattnaik, a celebrated sand artist and Padma Shri awardee, has created a stunning sand art installation at Miramar Beach, India, as part of the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
The sculpture pays tribute to four iconic figures in Indian cinema and music: Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Tapan Sinha, Mohammed Rafi, and Raj Kapoor. The Chief Minister of Goa, Dr.Pramod Sawant, expressed his appreciation for the innovative and artistic tribute to these legends.
The sculpture is now accessible for the public to view and appreciate. It honors the timeless contributions of four legendary figures in cinema and serves as a sincere tribute to their enduring impact on the Indian film and music industries.

Pattnaik, known worldwide for his groundbreaking contributions to sand art, uses his creative talents to highlight social and environmental concerns, advocating for peace, harmony, and unity through his artistic endeavors.
Pattnaik highlighted the opportunity for Goa to become a center for training in sand sculpture. He said that Goa is renowned for its stunning beaches and such an institution would enable local artists and students to explore and master the intricate techniques of sand sculpture, significantly enhancing the cultural landscape of the state and attracting tourists from around the globe.
Pattnaik offered insights into the distinct coastal landscapes of Goa and his native Odisha, discussing the diverse varieties of sand that characterise the beaches in these regions. Each beach possesses a unique personality and distinct type of sand. “However, for an artist, each grain of sand holds the same significance,” he added.
Pattnaik has gained global recognition for his artistry, showcasing India’s talent at international sand art festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival. His recent contribution at IFFI serves as an homage to the icons of Indian cinema while enhancing the festival’s diverse cultural landscape.
