Pierre Lescure, President of the Festival de Cannes, and Thierry Frémaux, the festival’s artistic director and General Delegate, announced its 2020 lineup Cannes labeled films which includes new films from Wes Anderson, Steve McQueen, Pixar, Francois Ozon, Naomi Kawase, Thomas Vinterberg, Maiwenn, Yeon Sang-Ho, Kôji Fukada among others.

The curated film titles that has got the Cannes 2020 official stamp of approval will get a big boost at the Cannes Virtual Film Market beginning June 22. The international sales agents representing the Cannes 2020 selections are registered with the Online Cannes Film Market. Many of these films are likely to be screened for buyers at the film market( sales agents will have the discretion to give access to buyers for viewing during the market).

Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” and Pixar’s “Soul” are two of the biggest movies in the Official selections this year. These 56 films will be released in cinema theatres worldwide and will get screened in film festivals (Toronto, San Sebastian, Busan, New York) during this year.

Festive de Cannes didn’t differentiate films by Official Competition, Un Certain Regard, Midnight Movies and announced the lineup by thematic category. There are films by Masters, first time filmmakers, Comedies, Documentaries and Animation. A record 2,067 features films were submitted or consideration for the 2020 Cannes Film Festival (1,845 films in 2019). Of the 56 films selected in the Cannes official Selections, 21 are French films. Of the 56 films, sixteen were made by women directors. Italian films, which used to be regular picks at Cannes did not get into Cannes curation. Four animation films found a place in the selection.
