This isn’t your average industry event—VEGAS Fest (Sept 28-29) is a neon-lit celebration of all things Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC), set to push Tamil Nadu’s creative and tech future to the next level
Chennai is buzzing with anticipation as VEGAS Fest 2024 approaches, a key event that will showcase the potential of the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) industry. Set in the iconic Kalaivanar Arangam in Triplicane, the festival will not only shine a light on the state’s creative prowess but also provide a platform for professionals, students, and industry stakeholders to discuss, debate, and shape the future of AVGC-XR.
Tamil Nadu’s march towards becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030 is deeply intertwined with the development of cutting-edge industries like AVGC-XR. As per the state’s vision document, AVGC-XR will play a crucial role in boosting job creation, fostering innovation, and driving the economy forward.
With over 500+ AVGC companies already operational and many freelancers contributing, the state has been an integral part of India’s AVGC leadership, dating back to its prominence in the animation and VFX scene during the mid-1990s.

VEGAS Fest 2024 comes at a pivotal time when Tamil Nadu is on the brink of rolling out its AVGC-XR policy. The policy aims to provide a structured framework that will incentivize domestic and international productions through grants, employee benefits, and marketing initiatives. The state government has already made a significant announcement, allocating ₹500 crore to build a state-of-the-art film city in Poonamallee. This facility will house animation studios, VFX centers, and advanced LED walls, setting the stage for Tamil Nadu to reclaim its position as a major player in the global AVGC space.
Bejoy Arputharaj, President of VEGAS and CEO of PhantomFX, shares a similar vision for the festival. He stated, “VEGAS Fest 2024 is more than just an event; it’s a dynamic convergence of creativity, technology, and innovation in the AVGC industry. This year’s fest is set to shape the future of the AVGC landscape and inspire the next generation of creators.”
The event will feature more than 3000+ students, 1000+ delegates, 20+ knowledge sessions, 10+panels, and six workshops, with 60+ speakers who will explore the latest trends in AVGC-XR. Keynotes, case studies, and presentations will focus on how AVGC contributes to Tamil Nadu’s economy, as well as India’s role in the global AVGC landscape. From discussions on gaming and XR, to deep dives into VFX workflows, the event will provide valuable insights for both industry veterans and aspiring talents and students.
VEGAS Fest 2024 is not just about learning and networking. It promises to offer a glimpse into the magic of storytelling and the technology behind blockbuster movies. Highlights include a masterclass by MPC on the making of “Leo” and an in-depth analysis of the mystical Shambala sequence in “Kalki 2898” by DNEG. The presentations will dissect the technical breakdown of VFX techniques used in the making of popular films like “Ayalaan,” “RRR,” and “Thangalaan.” Attendees can expect a rich blend of creative discussions and technical explorations, making the fest a one-stop destination for anyone passionate about the AVGC industry.

The national landscape for AVGC is equally vibrant, with over a dozen states aggressively pushing to unlock the sector’s potential Ashish S K, Chairman, FICCI AVGC-XR Forum & Founder of Punnaryug Artvision Pvt Ltd, has been at the forefront of this movement. According to him, policies are already in place in states like Telangana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi, with Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal in the process of formulating their own. Ashsih SK emphasizes that “AVGC will generate maximum jobs with forward-thinking policies, and Tamil Nadu’s vision to become a hub is both timely and strategic.”
Chennai’s Kalaivanar Arangam, the historical venue named after the beloved actor N.S. Krishnan, is the perfect location to host an event of this magnitude. As the AVGC industry continues to thrive, the venue stands as a symbol of Tamil Nadu’s rich cinematic heritage and its bold steps towards a future driven by creativity and technology.
With a burgeoning AVGC ecosystem, supportive government policies, and a strong talent pool, Tamil Nadu is well on its way to cementing its status as a leader in the industry. VEGAS Fest 2024 will not only celebrate this success but also pave the way for future advancements in the world of animation, VFX, gaming, and comics. As the festival kicks off, all eyes will be on Tamil Nadu, eager to see how it leads India into the next phase of the AVGC revolution.
