Raj Kapoor’s Awara To Be Screened in 4K to mark this 100th Birth Anniversary

TIFF CLASSICS SPOTLIGHT
To mark the centenary of legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor, TIFF Classics Section 2024 will host the world premiere of a 4K restored version of his 1951 classic Awara. The screening will take place on September 13, serving as a tribute to Kapoor’s lasting legacy in global cinema. Restored by the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) under the National Film Heritage Mission, the film will feature enhanced color grading supervised by Kapoor’s nephew, Kunal Kapoor. This celebration of Awara not only honours a milestone in Indian film history but also reintroduces one of the country’s most beloved films to international audiences.
