TIFF Announces 2024 Platform Programme and Esteemed Jury

The Platform programme, now in its ninth year, aims to present audiences with some of the most innovative and compelling films from around the globe

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has unveiled its highly anticipated 2024 Platform programme, showcasing ten exceptional films from 17 countries. This year’s competitive programme, named after Jia Zhang-Ke’s groundbreaking second feature, continues its tradition of highlighting bold and distinct directorial voices.

Acclaimed Canadian director Atom Egoyan, celebrated South Korean filmmaker Hur Jin-ho, and award-winning American filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun will serve as the 2024 Platform jury. Egoyan, known for his work on films such as Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter, will act as the Jury Head. Joining him is Hur Jin-ho, whose film A Normal Family premiered at TIFF last year, and Schoenbrun, recognized for their queer cinema and innovative works including We’re All Going to the World’s Fair.

The Platform programme, now in its ninth year, aims to present audiences with some of the most innovative and compelling films from around the globe. Past Platform selections have gone on to achieve significant acclaim, with films like Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight and Darius Marder’s Sound of Metal garnering Oscar recognition.

Platform Jury Biographies

Atom Egoyan

Known for his critically acclaimed films such as Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter, Egoyan’s latest film, Seven Veils, premiered at TIFF last year.

Hur Jin-ho

A South Korean filmmaker whose works include Christmas in August and A Good Rain Knows. His recent film, A Normal Family, premiered at TIFF in 2023.

Jane Schoenbrun

A non-binary filmmaker and writer, Schoenbrun’s work includes We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and the punk rock variety TV show The Eyeslicer. Their debut novel is set to be published in 2025.

The Platform Prize, an award of $20,000 CAD, will be given to the best film in the programme. Previous jury members have included notable figures like Claire Denis, Béla Tarr, and Riz Ahmed.
