TIFF Announces Additional 2024 Tribute Award Honourees

Cameron Bailey, CEO of TIFF, has announced four more distinguished honourees for the 2024 TIFF Tribute Awards. This year’s recipients include acclaimed British filmmaker Mike Leigh, who will receive the TIFF Ebert Director Award; Canadian filmmaker Durga Chew-Bose, who will be honored with the TIFF Emerging Talent Award presented by Amazon MGM Studios; and French songwriting and composing duo Camille Dalmais and Clément Ducol, who will be awarded the TIFF Variety Artisan Award.

Honorees:

Mike Leigh will be awarded the TIFF Ebert Director Award. Known for his remarkable contributions to cinema, Leigh returns to the Festival with the World Premiere of his 23rd film, Hard Truths. The TIFF Ebert Director Award celebrates visionaries who have made significant impacts on the art of directing. Past recipients include Martin Scorsese, Claire Denis, and Taika Waititi.

Durga Chew-Bose will receive the TIFF Emerging Talent Award for her debut feature Bonjour Tristesse. Presented by Amazon MGM Studios, this award highlights promising Canadian filmmakers. Previous recipients include Carolina Markowicz and Sally El Hosaini.

Camille Dalmais and Clément Ducol will be honored with the TIFF Variety Artisan Award for their work on the soundtrack of Emilia Pérez, directed by Jacques Audiard. This award recognizes distinguished creatives in film music. Past honorees include Hildur Guðnadóttir and Ari Wegner.

The TIFF Tribute Awards gala is TIFF’s largest annual fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting TIFF’s Every Story Fund, which supports diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in film.

Honouree Bios:

  • Mike Leigh is celebrated for films like Secrets & Lies, Happy-Go-Lucky, and Mr. Turner. His work has earned numerous accolades, including the Palme d’Or and several BAFTAs.
  • Durga Chew-Bose is a Montreal-based writer and filmmaker whose debut film Bonjour Tristesse is a modern take on the classic novel. She is also known for her essays and film criticism.
  • Camille Dalmais (known as Camille) is a French artist acclaimed for her unique vocal style and contributions to film scores, including Emilia Pérez. Her career spans over two decades, blending pop, folk, and avant-garde elements.
  • Clément Ducol is a versatile composer and arranger known for his work on films such as Little Tickles and Annette. His collaborations include projects with Hans Zimmer and Leos Carax.
