The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) continues to elevate its reputation as a premier global cinema event, announcing five additional World Premiere titles. This latest selection, featuring films from Canada, France, India, the United Kingdom, and the USA, promises to captivate audiences with its diverse storytelling and distinguished directorial talent.

Eden, directed by renowned filmmaker Ron Howard, headlines the Gala programme. This survival thriller, based on true events, delves into the extreme lengths people will go to for a better life. Written by Halifax-born Noah Pink, the film stars Jude Law, Ana de Armas, and Sydney Sweeney, promising a gripping narrative set against the stunning backdrop of the Galapagos Islands.

Musician Anderson .Paak makes his directorial debut with K-POPS, a dramatic comedy inspired by his own life. This Special Presentation title explores the intersection of family lineages and cultures, set in the vibrant world of Seoul’s music scene.

From the collaboration between Canada and France comes Shepherds, directed by Sophie Deraspe. This adaptation of the Canadian novel “D’où viens tu, berger?” follows a young advertising executive who abandons his Montreal life to become a shepherd in the French Alps. This film promises to offer a poignant reflection on life’s unexpected turns and the search for purpose.

India’s Reema Kagti brings Superboys of Malegaon to the Gala programme. This film, based on the life of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from Malegaon, explores the dynamics of filmmaking and friendship in a small town known for its vibrant film industry.

Rounding out the list is We Live in Time, directed by John Crowley. This highly anticipated romance, starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, chronicles the profound impact of a chance encounter that leads to love, family, and confronting difficult truths. Set in London, this film promises to tug at the heartstrings with its deeply human story.

Anita Lee, Chief Programming Officer of TIFF, expressed her enthusiasm for the new premieres, stating, “I’m thrilled to share today’s list of World Premiere films, featuring stories from around the world that highlight the scope and breadth of TIFF’s programming. We have a Canada/France co-production set in the French Alps, directed by a French Canadian auteur; a Seoul-set comedic debut from musician Anderson .Paak; a Bollywood glimpse into the vibrant film industry of Malegaon, India; a London-set love story starring Florence Pugh from an Irish director; and a highly original survival thriller that takes us to the Galapagos Islands from Ron Howard. I can’t wait for TIFF audiences to take these journeys on the big screen and be transported by cinema together this September.”
