TIFF Unveils 2024 Discovery Programme, Showcasing Emerging Global Talent

The Discovery programme has been a launchpad for many acclaimed filmmakers

TIFF has announced its 2024 Discovery programme, offering audiences a chance to explore a vibrant array of debut and sophomore films from emerging filmmakers worldwide. Presented by Air France, the Discovery programme celebrates contemporary international cinema with 24 titles, including 21 World Premieres, representing more than 25 countries.

Highlights of this year’s Discovery programme include:

Bonjour Tristesse by Durga Chew-Bose – A compelling adaptation of Françoise Sagan’s classic novel, opening the Discovery programme.

Horizonte by César Augusto Acevedo – A deeply evocative film that promises to captivate audiences with its narrative and cinematic style.

Mother Mother by K’naan Warsame – A powerful exploration of themes through innovative storytelling.

On Falling by Laura Carreira – An intriguing film showcasing unique perspectives and emotional depth.

The Courageous by Jasmin Gordon – A bold and inspiring debut that demonstrates the filmmaker’s vision and artistry.

Other notable titles include Afolabi Olalekan’s Freedom Way, Egil Pedersen’s My Fathers’ Daughter, Laura Carreira’s On Falling, and Pavlo Ostrikov’s U Are The Universe. This year’s programme offers a rich tapestry of global storytelling, featuring films from Argentina, Bangladesh, Colombia, Denmark, Greece, India, Italy, Kosovo, Nigeria, Romania, Somalia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, and Ukraine.

The Discovery programme has been a launchpad for many acclaimed filmmakers, including Ildikó Enyedi, Alfonso Cuarón, Christopher Nolan, Maren Ade, Yorgos Lanthimos, Barry Jenkins, and Emma Seligman.

This year’s selection has been curated by TIFF’s talented programming team, including Dorota Lech, Jason Anderson, Kelly Boutsalis, Diana Cadavid, Robyn Citizen, Nataleah Hunter-Young, June Kim, Jason Ryle, and Norm Wilner.
