The TIFF Content Market will serve as a North American gateway for industry professionals to engage in transactions, pitches, and connections
At a press conference held in Cannes, TIFF has announced an ambitious new venture: the launch of an official content market at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. Supported by a landmark $23 million CAD investment from the Canadian federal government, this new initiative aims to position Toronto as a pivotal hub for buying and selling screen-based projects, intellectual property, and innovative content across all platforms.
The TIFF Content Market will serve as a North American gateway for industry professionals to engage in transactions, pitches, and connections, elevating both Canadian and international talent and facilitating global distribution and sales.
Cameron Bailey, Chief Executive Officer of TIFF, highlighted the significance of the new market: “Toronto has always been a vibrant place for the film industry to do business. As screen storytelling and its delivery continue to evolve, we are committed to expanding our platform and services to support professionals working across all forms of screen content. This initiative will leverage Canada’s unique position and resources while showcasing exciting global talent and ideas.”
The Canadian federal government’s investment is the largest TIFF has received since the campaign for TIFF Lightbox. This substantial funding will accelerate the planning and development of the market, which is set to launch at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival in 2026.
The Honourable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage, emphasized the importance of the investment: “TIFF’s new content market represents a significant leap forward in innovation and collaboration within the screen sector. This investment not only reinforces our commitment to the arts and culture industry but also ensures that Canadian and international talent can thrive in a global context. By supporting this initiative, we are solidifying Canada’s role as a leader in the entertainment industry and promoting diverse storytelling that resonates worldwide.”
Anita Lee, Chief Programming Officer at TIFF, expressed her gratitude for the support: “We are deeply appreciative of Minister St-Onge and the federal government for their trust in our vision and their substantial investment in TIFF’s future. This market will serve as a transformative force for the international industry and will significantly enhance TIFF’s ability to champion Canadian content on a global stage.”
Canada’s screen sector, contributing over $13 billion annually to the economy, stands to benefit greatly from this new initiative, which aims to strengthen the country’s position in the global entertainment landscape.
